What glucomannan is and why it works
Glucomannan is a soluble fibre extracted from the root of the konjac plant, native to East Asia and used for over 1500 years in cooking and traditional medicine. What makes it unique among fibres is its water-absorption capacity: when it comes into contact with stomach fluids, it forms a dense, viscous gel that occupies physical space, slows gastric emptying and prolongs the feeling of fullness naturally and without stimulants. EFSA, the European Food Safety Authority, recognises glucomannan as an ingredient that contributes to the maintenance of normal body weight in adults, when consumed as part of a calorie-restricted diet. It is one of the few natural ingredients with this health claim approved at European level. Organic inulin completes the action of glucomannan with a different mechanism: it acts as a prebiotic, feeding the beneficial bacteria in the intestine, contributing to the balance of the gut flora and healthy digestive function. Together, glucomannan and inulin create a synergistic combination for appetite control and digestive health.
